Croatian films at the 25th International Short Film Festival in Drama
Nina Violić’s film The Lamb is to be shown during the official short film competition, which will also be its international premiere. Additionally, in the program intended for student films from the region, the titles White Room by the director Mladen Stanić and Jakov Nola’s Counter-offensive will be screened. The International Short Film Festival in Drama will be held from 15 to 21 September.
The short film The Lamb that was directed by Nina Violić, who also wrote the screenplay, had its premiere at this year’s Motovun Film Festival, while its screening on the 17 September at the festival in Drama will be its international premiere. After Greece, The Lamb will travel to Great Britain to the BFI – London Film Festival which will be held from 2 to 13 October. The film was produced by the production company Spiritus movens, headed by producers Zdenka Gold and Vanja Sremac, and was supported by funds from the Croatian Audiovisual Centre.
The film White room directed by Mladen Stanić and produced by Danijel Popović, which won the Golden Pram in the Kockice programme at last year’s Zagreb Film Festival, will be screened in the student program titled Balkan Student Panorama. The film was produced by the Academy of Dramatic Arts and co-produced by the Cine Club Split. The film’s screening in Drama is scheduled for Wednesday, 18 September.
Other than White Room, Jakov Nola’s Counter-offensive has also been included in the same program. The film was produced by Pere Curkov (ADU – Academy of Dramatic Art University of Zagreb), and was filmed through the support of the Croatian Audiovisual Centre. The screening of Counter-offensive at the festival in Drama is scheduled for Monday, 16 September.
The focus of this year’s Balkan Student Panorama programme is on Slovenian short films, while the focus on Croatian films in the Balkan Panorama programme was in 2017.
The International Short Film Festival in Drama is the most important festival of its kind in Greece and it gathers together filmmakers from throughout the world. The fact that the most successful films in Drama are further nominated for the European Film Award gives it a special importance.
At this year’s 42nd national and 25th international edition of the festival a total of 199 films from 64 countries will be shown. You can find more information on the official website of the festival.
