These Are the Rules Wins Award at Les Arcs European Film Festival

The film These Are the Rules, written and directed by Ognjen Sviličić, won the jury Grand Prix at the sixth edition of Les Arcs European Film Festival, taking place 13-20 December in the French Alps.

This is the eighth award presented to Sviličić’s film, after merits earned in Venice’s Horizons section, and at festivals in Warsaw, Cottbus, Stockholm and Minsk.

The film portrays a married couple from Zagreb’s Savica neighbourhood, who are facing the worst situation in their lives. When their son ends up in a hospital after a street fight, Maja and Ivo will need to stand up against government institutions, which are all but on their side – which is what the film title refers to. The film stars Jasna Žalica, Emir Hadžihafizbegović and Hrvoje Vladisavljević, the producers are Damir Terešak (MaXima Film, HR), and Janja Kralj (KinoElektron, FR), and co-producers NIkolina Vučetić Zečević (Biberche Productions, SR) and Svetozar Ristovski (Trice Films, MK). The director of photography is Crystel Fournier, editor Atanas Georgiev, set designer Ivan Veljača, costume designer Katarina Zaninović, and sound designers Tomislav Gašparić and Jean-Guy Veran. The film is co-funded by the Croatian Audiovisual Centre, Croatian Television and French National Centre for Cinema (CNC) – fund Aide aux cinemas du monde.

Les Arcs European Film Festival with its amount of film and industry programme is currently one of the most important places for the promotion of European cinema and networking of European filmmakers. More information is available on the official festival website.
