Public bidding results announced – interest in support for digital equipment of independent cinemas in 2012-2013

On 8 May, the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Croatia, Andrea Zlatar Violić, pursuant to the Strategic Plan of the Ministry of Culture for 2012-2014 and the National Programme of Audiovisual Promotion for 2010-2014, reached the decision on the acceptance of the List of Independent Cinema Operators, determined at the session of 20 April 2012 by the Expert Committee for Digitalization.

Digitalization of Croatian cinemas is one of the most important strategic aims of the Croatian Audiovisual Centre and the Ministry of Culture, formulated in the National Programme of Audiovisual Promotion for 2010-2014 and the Strategic Plan of the Ministry of Culture for 2012-2014. Determination of the List of Independent Cinema Operators is the key moment in the final stage of the project.

The basic aims of the independent Croatian cinemas digitalization project are preserving, strengthening and development of the Croatian independent cinema-operating network and a fight for a better and more diverse cinema programme.

The project of digitalization of independent cinemas got its first systematic outlines in late October last year, when we presented the results of a thorough technical inspection implemented at independent cinemas in Croatia.

The offer of the independent and art cinemas should be an alternative to commercial cinemas. The screening of Croatian, European and other international, but less frequently represented cinematographies, along with various contents, could once again help the cinemas become a place of meeting and socialising, said Tina Hajon, Head of the Digitalization Project.

The list of independent cinema operators and conclusions of the expert committee from the session held on 20 April 2012 can be found in attachment.

The results of the public bidding for the interest in support to digital equipment of independent cinemas for 2012-2014 are also available on the website of the Ministry of Culture.
