Pavo Marinković's project Jimmy L. receives special mention at 14th ScripTeast

Pavo Marinković’s project Jimmy L. was one of 11 projects developed at the 14th edition of ScripTeast, a masterclass scriptwriting program for projects coming from Central and Eastern Europe. The final module of the programme was held online, on 20th May and consisted of a pitching session and the Krzysztof Kieślowski ScripTeast Award ceremony.

Pavo Marinković's fiction feature film project Jimmy L., a story about Jimmy Lyggett, an African American boxer and boxing trainer who trained the Independent State of Croatia team during WWII, won a special mention at the 14th ScripTeast. The project is a Telefilm production, with Stanislav Babić as producer and Pavo Marinković as the author of the screenplay, who is also going to direct the film. Jimmy L. recently also received financial support from the MEDIA Sub-programme of Creative Europe in the amount of 55,000 euros.

The main Krzysztof Kieślowski award went to Maciej Sobieszczański for his project Brother.  

ScripTeast is one of the most prestigious European screenwriting programmes, which has seen the participation of the likes of Marta Meszaros, Benedek Fliegauf, Stefan Komandarev and Damjan Kozole, who have also developed their scripts in the programme. The latest successful release to come out of the programme was The Painted Bird, by Václav Marhoul, one of the most controversial films of last year's Mostra, which won a special mention at the 2013 ScripTeast and was last year one of the 10 titles competing for an Academy Award nomination in the category of Best International Feature.

The participants of the masterclass workshop are experiences screenwriters, while the programme consisted of three sessions: a residential writing session held in Poland (Sterdyn, October 2019), an industry session held at Berlinale (February 2020), and the final session that was supposed to take place during Cannes Film Festival, which was unfortunately cancelled until further notice. The last module was therefore held online, on 20th May, and included a pitching session of the projects and the Krzysztof Kieślowski ScripTeast Award ceremony. the entire session, which is traditionally the crowning moment of each ScripTeast, is available for online viewing at the following link
