No One’s Child Wins International Critics’ Week in Venice

Venice, 6 September – The feature-length film No One’s Child by Serbian director and writer Vuk Ršumović, co-produced by Kinorama from Zagreb, has won three awards at the 29th International Critics’ Week in Venice, including the main award – RaroVideo Audience Award.

In addition to RaroVideo and 5000 Euros, the film won the Federation of Film Critics of Europe and the Mediterranean FEDEORA Award for best screenplay, the International Federation of Film Critics FIPRESCI Award for best script, and best film award in two categories, Critics’ Week and Horizons.

No One’s Child from the title is a real boy, found by hunters in spring 1988 deep in the Bosnian mountains, who later ended up in and orphanage in Belgrade. A long and painful socialisation ends with hisunexpected return to Bosnia a few years later, during the war conflicts.

The film was co-produced by Art & Popcorn and BaBoon Productions from Serbia and Kinorama from Croatia. The film is a feature debut by writer and director Vuk Ršumović, as well as cinematographer Damjan Radovanović. Music and sound were designed by Croatian authors Jura Ferina, Pavao Miholjević and Dubravka Premar, and the Croatian co-producer is Ankica Jurić Tilić.

Denis Murić stars in the title role, opposite Pavle Čemerikić, Isidora Janković, Miloš Timotijević, Tihomir Stanić and Borka Tomović.

The International Critics’ Week in Venice is a parallel festival screening feature debuts. It is jointly organised by Mostra and the Italian Film Critics’ Association (SNNCI) since 1984, therefore in addition to the main award given by the audience, the films selected for the programme compete for Mostra’s official award for best debut film – Luigi de Laurentiis Lion of the Future, as well as the critics’ awards.
