Lada Kamenski by Sara Hribar and Marko Šantić competing at Montreal World Film Festival
Lada Kamenski, the feature film by Sara Hribar, who wrote the screenplay, and Marko Šantić, has been selected into the debut film competition at the 42nd Montreal World Film Festival. This Canadian festival will run from August 23rd to September 3rd.
Lada Kamenski, a film about film, discusses the position of women and relations in the film industry in Croatia. The film is about a young director Frano (Frano Mašković) who invites three women - Ksenija Marinković, Doris Šarić-Kukuljica and Nataša Dorčić – to audition for the role of Lada Kamenski, a character inspired by his aunt who once worked for the failed Kamensko factory. Soon the actresses realize there is only one role in Frano’s debut film and they start to fight for it, and in doing so, less desirable aspects, very present in the film industry, surface.
The film is written by Sara Hribar who also directed it with Marko Šantić. Lada Kamenski’s editor is Tomislav Pavlic, the sound engineer is Tihomir Vrbanec, and music is by Vid Adam Hribar, while costume design is by Lidija Sertić. The film is produced by Sekvenca, Peglanja Snova and Antitalent, with support from the Croatian Audiovisual Centre.
To date, Lada Kamenski has screened at the 65th Pula Film Festival where it won the FEDEORA (Federation of International Film Critics) Award for Best Film, as well as the Golden Arena for Best Female (Doris Šarić-Kukuljica), the Golden Arena for Best Screenplay (Sara Hribar), and the Breza Award for Best Debutant (Sara Hribar).
