Family psycho-thriller Daddy hits Croatian cinemas

Last Tuesday, 22 November, the film Daddy premiered at Movieplex cinema and began its official distribution in cinemas. Directed by Dalibor Matanić, the director of cult films such as The Cashier Wants to Go to the SeasideFine Dead Girls and The Lika Cinema, the film was shot in just ten days by internationally acclaimed DOP  Vanja Černjul (Wristcutters: A Love Story, Mother of Asphalt, 30 Rock, Nurse Betty...) in Matanić’s family house in the province of Lika.

The family psycho-thriller Daddy is a story of two sisters (rising stars of Croatian cinema Judita Franković and Iva Mihalić) and the boyfriend of one of them (Igor Kovač), who go to a remote place in Lika to find their father gone astray (Ivo Gregurević) and resolve some past issues.

Outstanding music, great choice of actors (young Iva Mihalić and Judita Franković absolutely hit the spot, while Ivo Gregurević seemed truly disturbing)... an atmosphere full of expectation and danger, and one the most disturbing murder scenes in the new Croatian cinema make Daddy one of Matanić’s best works. Vedran Jerbić, Vjesnik / Planet Film

A chamber, minimalist (four characters, one location) combination of family drama, psychological thriller and horror with style and atmosphere, complete with Vanja Černjul’s fantastic cinematography, which makes up for the scarcity of dialogues with the richness of visuals and expressive protagonists’ faces – especially Iva Mihalić’s.
