Curtas Vila do Conde 2019 turns focus on Croatian film 

At the 27th edition of the International Film Festival Curtas Vila do Conde, which is held on the Portuguese coast from 6 to 14 July, a focus program on Croatian film that includes six titles will be shown. 

Croatian short films will be shown as part of the special program 'European Panorama', and this Croatian cinematography presentation has been organised in cooperation with the Croatian Audiovisual Centre. 
In the Portuguese city Vila do Conde, where the festival is being held, visitors will be able to watch the fiction short film I Can Barely Remember the Day by Leon Lučev, documentary The Lovetts by Igor Bezinović and the animated films Cyclists by Veljko Popović, How Steel Was Tempered by Igor Grubić and Manivald by Chintis Lundgren and the experimental animated film September 3 2015 by Sara Jurinčić

The directorial debut of Leon Lučev, I Can Barely Remember the Day, premiered at last year’s Locarno Film Festival, while in April it was awarded for best short feature film at the Festival of Central and Eastern European Film held in Wiesbaden, Germany. The film was produced by the company Everything Works (Ivana Ivišić). 

The Lovetts, a documentary film that follows the web-cam models Mr. and Mrs. Lovett, had its world premiere in March 2018 at the CPH:DOX, Copenhagen International Documentary Film Festival, and in the same year Tabor Film Festival declared it the best film. The Lovetts was produced by Sekvence, by the director Igor Bezinović and by Bojan Kanjera and Jure Pavlović.

The short animated film Cyclists by Veljko Popović was shown and awarded at numerous film festivals throughout the world, while at last year’s Animafest it was declared the best film in the Croatian Film Competition. It had its world premiere at the prestigious Annecy International Animated Film Festival, where it received special recognition from the jury. The producers are Milivoj Popović and Veljko Popović (Lemonade 3D), while the co-producers are Patrick Hernandez (Bagan Films) and Lado Skorin (3D2D Animatori). The film is a Croatian and French co-production, while the Zagreb company Bonobostudio is in charge of distribution. 

How Steel Was Tempered by Igor Grubić was shown for the first time at last year’s Animafest, where it received special recognition from the jury. Since then it has had screenings at many domestic and foreign festivals, such as the Tabor Film Festival, Supertoon, Diversions International Short Film Festival, Pančevo Film Festival, the Anilogue International Animation Festival in Budapest (where it also received special recognition from the jury), SEEfest in Los Angeles and many others. The film was produced by its creator Igor Grubić under the auspice of the company Kreativni sindikat.

The animated film Manivald by Chintis Lundgren has won numerous awards at festivals in Zagreb, Ottawa, Hiroshima and has been screened at important festivals such as Sundance, Annecy and Palm Springs. The film was made in 2017, in the co-production of Chintis Lundgren and Animatsioonistuudio from Estonia, Jadranska animacija – Adriatic Animation from Croatia and the National Film Board from Canada. 

3 September 2015 by Sara Jurinčić premiered at the Liburnia Film Festival last year. It won the award for best film in the Review of Croatian film creations, and it was also awarded at the 14th Festival 25 FPS. The film, which was made during the Restart School of documentary film, has also been screened in the competition at the International Short Film Festival Oberhausen. The film was produced by Anita Bastašić

Aside from the series of Croatian films, films from Belgium, Spain, Poland, Great Britain and the Netherlands will also be screened as part of the 'European Panorama'. 

International Film Festival Curtas Vila do Conde is dedicated to following trends in contemporary film, with an emphasis on short meters. Each year it screens a selection of films by the best today’s filmmakers that are up to 60 minutes long, in the documentary, animated and feature film categories.
