Croatian films and filmmakers at 30th FilmFestival Cottbus  

This year’s edition of FilmFestival Cottbus will feature four Croatian films in different sections of the programme. In addition, the Connecting Cottbus co-production market will include presentations of debut feature film Honey Bunny, directed and written by Igor Jelinović, and Closed to the Public by director and writer Vanja Juranić. FilmFestival Cottbus, dedicated to Eastern European cinema, is held 3rd – 8th Nov, at cinemas and online, while the Connecting Cottbus market is held online only, 4th – 6th Nov.

Multi-award-winning Mater, directed and written by Jure Pavlović, will appear in the Feature Film competition of the 30th FilmFestival Cottbus, while the Spectrum section, featuring a total of 13 titles, will include two Croatian films: satirical thriller Extracurricular, directed by Ivan-Goran Vitez, and Croatian minority co-production I Am Frank directed by Metod Pevec (Croatian co-producer is Interfilm).   

The festival section entitled On Trust and Freedom will be screening When the War Comes, a Czech-Croatian co-production directed by Jan Gebert, with Miljenka Čogelja and Dana Budisavljević of Hulahop as Croatian producers.

Also, the Connecting Cottbus co-production market will feature presentations of two Croatian projects in the cocoPITCH pitching section. Debut feature film Honey Bunny, directed and written by Igor Jelinović and produced by Rea Rajčić (Eclectica), and Closed to the Public by director and writer Vanja Juranić and producer Damir Terešak (Maxima Film). Both projects are co-financed by the Croatian Audiovisual Centre.

Development Award to one of our Pitch Projects on behalf of the HAVC, dedicated  for the further development of one of the projects within our cocoPITCH selection. We would appoint an external jury for this, who would decide upon quality of the project, feasibility and possibility to co-produce with Croatia

One of the awards for projects in development within this year's cocoPITCH, in the amount of 5 000 euros, will also be awarded on behalf of the Croatian Audiovisual Centre. The mentioned amount is intended for the realization and co-production of one of the selected projects with Croatia, which will be selected by an external appointed jury. 

Connecting Cottbus, the east-west co-production market, is held during the festival, 4th – 6th Nov, and will take place exclusively in digital format.

FilmFestival Cottbus was launched in 1991 and it is one of the most important film events devoted to Eastern European cinema in the world. The 30th festival edition will present 16 awards, while more information is available at the festival’s official website
