Many commentators blame the supporters of two football clubs, Red Star Belgrade and Dinamo Zagreb, for the final break-up of Yugoslavia. The riot that broke out between rival fans at the Maksimir Stadium in Zagreb on May 13 1990 is often regarded as a foretaste of the war that would soon follow. Hoping to find out what exactly happened that day, two journalists start searching for people who took part in this now-historic event; one tracking down five fans in Serbia, the other doing the same in Croatia. They listen to their stories from today’s perspective, and ask them to finish the game that was cut short by the violence on the football terraces. In 1990, the interrupted match was supposed to decide which team would become champion of the Yugoslav football league. The game that the fans must play today should settle much larger and more important issues.
