Animafest 2014 in Digitalised Independent Theatres

This year, throughout the entire duration of Animafest, which takes place in Zagreb from June 3-8, audiences throughout Croatia will have a chance to simultaneously enjoy the Festival’s art house animations otherwise not offered through television or standard theatre distribution. A selection of 19 animated films will be screened in 16 independent theatres throughout Croatia: Čakovec, Daruvar, Gospić, Koprivnica, Korčula, Novska, Osijek, Pazin, Poreč, Pula, Rovinj, Samobor, Sisak, Split, Velika Gorica and Zabok.

The Croatian Audiovisual Centre and the World Festival of Animated Film – Animafest have selected three short film programmes and one feature film.

The Cartoon d’Or programme will screen six animated shorts that were nominated for the Cartoon d’Or 2013, Europe’s best short animated film award.

The Puppet Film programme will feature a selection of five short animated films from Animafest’s central theme programme – the Puppet Film Retrospective.

The Children and Youth Programme, the festival’s third thematic programme, will screen seven shorts devoted to the youngest audience.

Approved for Adoption, a family feature animation that won the Grand Prix and 2013 Animafest Audience Award, is a powerful, touching, witty and charming autobiographical story of the South Korean animator Jung who was one of the 200,000 children that were adopted after the Korean war. The film will be screened in Čakovec, Daruvar, Koprivnica, Korčula, Novska, Poreč, Samobor, Split, Velika Gorica and Zabok.

This event, jointly organized by the Croatian Audiovisual Centre and Animafest, follows on the heels of the successful digitalization of independent cinemas in Croatia.
