Third Short Film Marathon in 19 cities across Croatia
For the third consecutive year, in cinemas across Croatia, in honour of the shortest day of the year, the Short Film Marathon will celebrate the short film form. This year, the marathon will be held from December 18th to 21st in 23 cinemas in 19 cities, and special open-air screenings have been organised in Zagreb, as well as, for the first time, in Split! Entrance is free for all events.
More than 20 films divided into four categories will be screened at the 3rd Short Film Marathon: 'Croatian Marathoners I and II' will screen recently awarded local shorts, 'Stories from Nature' will screen European films for our youngest viewers, while 'Renowned Directors First Films' will screen short films by four renowned French filmmakers.
The programme 'Croatian Marathoners I and II' will screen 11 Croatian films of all genres. They include Picnic, by Jure Pavlović, winner of this year's European Film Award for Best Short Film; Belladonna, by Dubravka Turić, winner of Best Short Film in the Horizonti programme in Venice; The Beast, by Daina O. Pusić, winner of the Best Checkers Film at the recently held 13th Zagreb Film Festival; No Wolf Has a House, by Hana Jušić, which premiered at the Rotterdam International Film Festival; Teddy Bear by Igor Jelinović, winner at festivals in Novi Sad and Sofia; and the documentary Red Lorry, Yellow Lorry, by Neven Hitrec. Animated films to be screened include the award-winning Life with Herman H. Rott by Chintis Lundgren, Wolf Games by Jelena Oroz, Simulacra by Ivana Bošnjak and Thomas Johnson, Levitation by Marko Meštrović, and the animated experimental film Here There by Alexander Stewart.
'Stories from Nature' is intended for young viewers and will screen European animated films, including one Croatian film, Sweet Dreams by Dinko Kumanović, while the 'Renowned Directors First Films' will screen the works of Jean-Luc Godard (All the Boys are Called Patrick, 1959), Jean Rouch (The 15 Year-Old Widows, 1967), François Reichenbach (A la mémoire du rock, 1963) and Laurent Cantet (Tous à la manif, 1995).
Special open-air programmes are organised in Zagreb as a part of the Advent on European Square festivities and in Split near the Advent stands on the waterfront. The celebration of the shortest day of the year will begin on Friday December 18th at 6:00 pm opening the marathon weekend. First up are animated films for younger audiences – Zagreb Animation School classics, after which will follow Croatian award-winning films like Zovko Teleport by Predrag Ličina, Story About Mare by Igor Šeregi, Autofocus by Boris Poljak, Dove Sei, Amor Mio by Veljko Popović, Nikola Tesla's Secret Laboratory by Bruno Razum, Girl Who Loved Fairy-Tales by Čejen Černić, Just Like That by Sanja Milardović, Mirta Studies Statistics by Goran Dukić, etc.
The 3rd Short Film Marathon will be held in the following cities: Rijeka, Zagreb, Osijek, Sisak, Split, Kutina, Pakrac, Velika Gorica, Varaždin, Pula, Čakovec, Novska, Sinj, Zabok, Koprivnica, Samobor, Daruvar, Dubrovnik and Sveti Ivan Zelina.
