Sonja Tarokić’s The Staffroom receives 40,000 EUR at Torino Film Lab

The Torino Film Lab supports first and second projects by young film directors, and this year, Sonja Tarokić has been granted production support for her first feature film, The Staffroom. Ankica Jurić Tilić is the film’s producer.

The Torino Film Lab Meeting took place from November 23rd to 25th in parallel with the Torino Film Festival and gathered more than 3 000 filmmakers from around the world. Nine projects in the final phases of development were presented.

Each year, an international jury awards production prizes supporting project completion. A 40,000 EUR prize is awarded after judging the script, budget, financial and production plans, and project presentation. The jury also meets with both the director and the producer.

The jury changes every year, and this year’s members were Alberto Barbera (Italy), creative director of the Venice Film Festival, Moina Chokri (Canada), actress and film director, Hanaa Issa (Lebanon/Canada), strategy and development director at the Doha Film Institute, Oscar Ruiz (Columbia), film director and producer, and Jožko Rutar (Slovenia), producer.

Along with The Staffroom, two other prizes (40,000 EUR) went to The Guest, directed by Duccio Chiarini (Italy, France, Switzerland) and The Orphanage by Shahrbanoo Sadat (Denmark, Afghanistan, Poland).
