First KIN-KONG successfully unites independent cinemas in association

Zadar, 30 August 2014 – The first independent cinema operators’ congress KIN-KONG, which took place 27-29 August in Zadar, 35 representatives of independent cinemas decided to establish an association. KIN-KONG’s programme and the establishment of an association are a continuation of the successful project of independent cinema digitalization, implemented as part of the National Programme of Audiovisual Promotion 2010-2014.

By establishing an association, cinema operators join to promote their common goals together, exchange and create film programmes more successfully, promote their activities and create new added values in the cinema operating sector. Independent cinemas and their networking will strengthen market competitiveness, benefit from local, regional and national funds more efficiently, as well as from European funds and other available sources of financing, collaborate with other film associations and institutions, and develop human resources.

In order to draft a statute and other decisions necessary for the establishment and registration of an independent cinema association, a task force was founded to define the common goals, bodies, financing models and conditions for membership by 15 September, and on 7 October a founding session will take place in Zagreb. The task force includes Marijana Bošnjak (Urania Cinema, Osijek), Tanja Miličić (Valli Cinema, Pula), Selma Mehadžić (Europa Cinema, Zagreb), Daniel Pavlić (Kristalna kocka vedrine Culture House, Sisak), and Josip Nakić Alfirević (POU Koprivnica, Velebit Cinema). The expert advisors to the group are Barbara Zupičić (Art Cinema Croatia, Rijeka) and Tina Hajon (Head of the Cinema Department, HAVC).
