Eurimages supporting two Croatian co-productions

At the 141st session of the European Co-Production Fund Eurimages, held from December 8th to 11th in Ljubljana, the Board of Management has approved support to a total of 24 European feature film co-productions. Among the selected are two Croatian co-productions: the majority co-production The Croatian Constitution directed by Rajko Grlić, a Croatian-Slovenian-Czech Republic co-production which will receive 150 000 EUR in funding, and the minority co-production Ivan, by Slovenian director Janez Burger, a Slovenian-Croatian co-production granted 167 426 EUR in funding.

The Croatian Constitution, directed by Rajko Grlić, was written by Grlić and Ante Tomić, the director of photography is Branko Linta, the set designer is Željka Burić, the costume designer is Leo Kulaš, and the make-up artist is Ana Bulajić Črček. The film is produced by Ivan Maloča of Interfilm, while the film stars Nebojša Glogovac, Ksenija Marinković and Dejan Aćimović. The film is a contemporary Zagreb story about three very different people who live in the same apartment building and who fate, against their will, has suddenly made them dependent on each other. In June of this year, the film was granted 30 000 EUR in funds from the MEDIA Sub-programme (EACEA 17/2014) in the single project development category. The Croatian Audiovisual Centre is also supporting the film.

The feature film Ivan, by Slovenian director Janez Burger (Slovenian producer: Staragara, Croatian co-producer: Propeler Film), is the story of Mara and her newborn son Ivan, a child born out of wedlock to Mara and her married lover, a tycoon named Roko accused of white-collar crimes. According to director and co-writer Janez Burger, the film is an ‘emblematic story about the state of society today, not only in Slovenia, but generally the society within which we live, a society where negativity is an everyday reality.’ Along with Eurimages, the film has also received support from the Croatian Audiovisual Centre.

Some of the other fund recipients include new films by Romanian director Radu Jude (Aferim!) and Hungarian director Kornél Mundruszó (White God).
