Belgian Film River Upstream Begins Shooting in Zadar County

In Ražanac near Zadar, on Tuesday, 26 May, the filming of River Upstream (En amont du fleuve) by Belgian director Marion Hänsel begins, produced by the Belgian company Man’s Films and serviced by the Croatian company Kinorama. The film will be fully shot in Croatia, mostly in Zadar County.

River Upstream is a psychological adventure film about two stepbrothers who come to Croatia following the death of their father, and before this they did not even know about each other’s existence. The film stars Sergio Lopez (Pan’s Labyrinth) and Olivier Gourmet (Read My Lips, La Promesse), opposite Croatian actors Igor Kovač and Nikša Butijer.

The film will be fully shot in Croatia, mostly in Zadar County, on following locations: Ražanac, Zemunik Airport, Novsko ždrilo, Zrmanja river, Krka National Park, Paklenica National Park, Musapstan park-forest in Zadar, and Janković Tower in the village of Islam Grčki near Zadar.

Two thirds of the film crew consists of Croatian filmmakers (set designer, location manager, set decorator, assistant director, scripter, special effects etc.). For a total of 30 days of shooting in Croatia, Man’s Film production company plans to spend around 4.5 million kuna, and thanks to HAVC’s film incentives it will make a return of 20 per cent of local expenses.

The film production in Croatia is serviced by Kinorama. Photos from the set are available on this link.
